Music at Kellett School

That music has the power to shape the human mind and soul is a belief well articulated by ancient Greek philosophers. They asserted that music's effect on listeners was so powerful it could transform them into philosophers, poets, even political leaders. So important was the influence of music to these philosophers that they considered its study an essential component in the education of any civilized human being. In short, they asserted that music could make the world a better place; and this is what Kellett's Department of Music believes too. This is why the department is strongly committed to increasing the awareness of the importance of music to society.

It is the belief of the Kellett Music Department that all students should have the opportunity to be involved in music, whether it is an extra-curricular activity or strictly in a classroom situation. The curriculum, activities and ensembles offered to students are pitched at different levels of performance and creativity, in order to best meet the students needs.

At the centre of the programme is the ideal that music should be fun and full of enjoyment. The repertoire and materials are carefully selected to provide a relevant experience for our children. It is our goal that every child should walk out of the music room smiling and humming a little tune.
